Peter’s Story

August 14, 2025

Meet Peter, who lives in a residential care facility in Umina Beach, Australia. At 83, Peter lives with dementia, and while remembering new information can be difficult, there’s one thing that always brings him into the moment – his personalized playlist.

The moment the music begins, Peter transforms. He sings and bops along to favorites from decades past, recalling lyrics and melodies with ease. When the classic instrumental “Tequila” plays, he never misses his cue – jumping in with a perfectly timed “Tequila!” that always brings a smile.

For Peter, the music brings confidence and dignity. For his son Sheldon, it turns visits into moments of shared joy – singing along to Little Richard, Buddy Holly, or the Andrews Sisters, both of them off-key and loving every minute of it.

Thanks to supporters like you, Music & Memory continues to provide:

  • Tools for caregivers to support elders in residential care
  • Improved quality of life for vulnerable populations
  • Personalized music playlists that bring joy and connection

Together, we can ensure that more people like Peter experience the magic and dignity that only music can bring.

Thank you for helping us create moments of joy and connection through music.
