MUSIC & MEMORY®: The Student Experience in Texas

July 12, 2016

What happens when high school student volunteers help residents at a MUSIC & MEMORY® Certified Care Organization listen to their personalized playlists? A beautiful synergy of young and old, sharing the joy that comes from recovering memories through favorite music.

The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) captured those relationships and the benefits of personalized music for nursing home residents and student volunteers alike in this new video. Watch and listen as John Jay High School student volunteers describe what it means to help residents of the Blue Skies of Texas nursing facility in San Antonio.

In the words of one student, “It makes you feel good. And it makes you feel like you’re doing something to change the world. It’s an experience that every young person should go through.”

We couldn’t have said it better:

Founded in 2010, MUSIC & MEMORY® is a non-profit organization that brings personalized music into the lives of people with cognitive or physical conditions through digital music technology, vastly improving quality of life.
